20 lessons to #getbetter

01 Start Hello and welcome to the Lightroom Classic MD Workflow course. Start learning and explore the possibilities to supercharge your workflow.

02 Importing photos Importing photos can be done quickly and easily. With a little knowledge, you will understand how you too can get the pictures from the SD card to the hard drive in a faster way. Creating and using import presets is a great way to make your work faster.

03 Folder Structure In this lesson, you will learn how to build a future-proof folder structure.

04 GPS and Saved Locations GPS information helps to add additional metadata to your photos. Even if you don’t have a camera with built-in GPS.

05 Collection Sets and Collections Collections are the backbone of Lightroom Classic. In special, with an ever-growing Lightroom catalog, it’s important to organize with collections and sets.

06 PUX for a super fast selection That’s the fastest way to select photos.

07 Removing photos Photos can be deleted from the catalog, so they will stay on the hard drive. The other way is to delete them from the hard drive. They get moved to the system trash directly from Lightroom.

08 Email photos out of Lightroom You can directly email photos out of Lightroom Classic. Here you can learn how.

09 Keywords and keyword sets Use keywords to add metadata to your images. To work faster on this task, keyword sets can help by working with keyboard shortcuts (option + 1 to 9).

10 Don’t export keywords You want to work with special keywords but don’t want to export them. With the tag-options shown in this video, you can exclude keywords.

11 Work with target collection + A well-kept secret is the small plus next to the quick collection. You can define every collection as “target collection” and add photos from everywhere with the shortcut B.

12 Sharpening images Here you learn how to sharpen images. There are two ways of thinking: low frequency sharpening and high frequency sharpening. Low: portraits. Everywhere where you want to emphasize forms. High: landscapes, architecture, structures. Everywhere where you want to emphasize small structures.

13 Develop in groups To increase your editing speed, it’s important to work in groups. Start big with all images at once. Here you can add metadata, de-noise (if you shot all images with the same ISO setting). After that, work your way with lighting sets and try to find photos from the same situation. Keep in mind, that for example, the change of the aperture will have an effect on the situation.

14 Moody look with tone curves Tone curves are very powerful to work with. Here I will demonstrate how you can use them to create a moody look. Additionally, I will show how you can create presets for fast testing tone curve settings.

15 HSL donut With the HSL section in the develop module, it's easy to alter colors. Use the "donut" for direct control.

16 Change colors with masks The new* masks interface is very powerful for all kinds of work. In this video, I will demonstrate how to recolor certain parts of an image. *(introduced in winter 2021)

17 Vignetting with masks For adding a vignette, you will normally go to the effects panel. But for flexible positioning of the vignette, it’s better to create a mask with a radial-filter. So you can freely position it.

18 Compare When working in Lightroom developing photos, you want to see, where you are coming from with the edits. The before-after view is exactly for this. The standard behavior is, that you will compare the last with the first setting in the history panel. But you can certainly alter this behavior!

19 Exporting your photos To send images to clients or upload them to a website, you have to render the final version as jpg. This ensures that all settings are inside the file and the file can be read on virtually every device and system. In my workflow, the exported files are deleted after delivery/upload. Why? Because the truth is in Lightroom!

20 Let’s go That’s the last video from this course. Congrats, you made it through! Now it’s up to you: use this knowledge and optimize your workflow.
